an internal spring cleaning

i feel like spring is such a good time to expand your horizons...
the weather is nicer so you can get out more
and do different things,
it's light out longer so you don't feel so much like
going straight home & changing into pyjamas after work,
and there is a sense of awakening and rejuvenation in the air.
...what a perfect time of year to get out
and challenge yourself to do new things!

my life right now is undergoing a bit of a cleanse...
things are starting to solidify about where we'll be next year,
i'm sorting out what i want to be doing in the future
and making sure that moving forward,
my life will be filled with things that make me happy & fulfilled.

i think it's important to air out your life every once in awhile,
and sweep away the cobwebs of
habits, thoughts, and relationships
that aren't doing you any good anymore.
that way you can fill your time with
hobbies and people who make you happy
and add enjoyment and substance to your life
...sort of a mental/emotional/personal spring cleaning.

for me, my urge to be social is reawakening.
although i spent the fall & winter cozied up in my apartment
getting used to being married,
enjoying time with dante watching movies & hanging out,
lately i've been getting in touch with good friends
that i haven't seen in awhile,
making coffee dates
and filling up my social calendar.
it feels good to re-connect with old friends
who are fun to be around & whose life outlooks
mirror my own.

i'm also working on not looking to the past so much.
although i realize that the decisions i made in the past
have brought me to where i am now,
it's also true that every moment of every day
i am a new person
and i can choose where i want to take my life
from this point forward.
so i think this warrants an effort to
let go of any regret that i may have about
actions i did or did not take in the past.
today i am happy,
and moving forward i am going to make sure
i make decisions that allow me to continue moving
towards the life i want to be living.

do you do an internal spring cleaning?
what types of things do you tend to air out
or re-examine?

  7. Love this post...
I love spring cleaning and nothing is safe...The Internal (mental) cleanse is eternal for me, everyday trying to let go and move "into myself" a little more...Honesty is key...And strength of vision.
Best of luck with your aspirations.

  8. You don't know how much I needed this. I need a bit of an internal cleansing, everything's been building up and with the spring, I feel like I need to start things anew. Hope things solidify perfectly :)

  9. I wholeheartedly agree, Meg! Internal cleansing is the best, and spring is the best season to do it in. I guess I'm doing sort of the same thing - readjusting to life post-undergrad back home with my parents and negotiating independence with still being my parents' daughter. I'm making strides towards the future, just like you, and I think that does wonder to keep one's spirits up. :) I'm grasping onto every bit of happiness that I can, and I'm glad that I'm not the only one. I hope you stay bright and cheery!

Also, I've left you an award on my blog. :D

  16. Miss Meg,

I think I may print this post out so I can read it daily. I love it. And I need an internal spring cleaning.

And I am totally one of those people who loves to change into pajamas after work. I am going to try to be more active externally and internally!
